#Ubuntu is a Nguni Bantu term for human kindness, compassion and understanding, akin to “love thy neighbor.”

Got a new phone today, the #OnePlus 3. Pretty neat piece of technology. Also 6GB RAM. Yeah, really. The large screen takes a little getting used to, as does the minimal / none at all space between the screen and the edges. Keep touching the edges with my clumsy fingers..
So what happened to my #Ubuntu phone? Nothing really, it's still here. There has been huge improvements in that world, but it's still a very slow process and I just wanted a little change from the constant waiting for new features and apps. I already miss the #UX which is far better than #Android imho. I really hate this three lower buttons old UX. But what can you do, Android just holds mobile at the moment.
One of the reasons I bought the OnePlus 3 was that it's a likely phone to have an Ubuntu image in the future, considering there is already one for the first version. The high HW specs means I can use Android now and when Ubuntu matures, the phone will still have enough kick to be useful. Well, if it matures, which I do hope it does :)
I did try returning to my #Jolla but it's still a weird mix of two different OS's with little interaction between, and most Android apps (since #Sailfish apps are lacking) don't function properly, with for example background notifications. Unfortunately creates a very broken kind of feeling, not being able to trust for example IM or email notifications even to come through (the built-in email client is horrible).

Sami Lehtinen (sl)'s status on Friday, 22-Jul-2016 11:03:40 UTC Sami Lehtinen User Experience. It took quite a while for me to figure out why WiFi / WLAN wasn't working. Reason? Access Point (AP) was configure to use n standard. But the old device only supported g standard. Guess what, Xubuntu, doesn't indicate any kind of reason for this fail. Just just tries to connect for a long time, and then fails. Yet another example of engineering, how to totally fail and even fail to give any kind of feedback or reasonable error message. After wondering for a while, I enabled gn mixed mode, and tada, everything started to work. Yet, the network list nicely shows the n network and prompts for password, even if the device naturally can't join the network- Thank you once again for great engineering guys. - Phew. #Ubuntu #Linux #WLAN #WiFi #fail

1. Get VPS from #OVH
2. Install Debian 8; Debian doesn't have #PHP7
3. Upgrade to #debian testing; first reboot breaks everything
4. Install #Ubuntu 16.04; When did #NGINX that complicated to set up? Why is it so hard to get ownCloud running?
5. Install #Arch; everything works on first try.

Finally tried OpenStore for #Ubuntu (click based) devices. Thanks [dada](/people/7fcdd8d08c2d0132bba82d9862fed453) for reminding me of this. It contains some apps that run outside the normal security containment, which allows them to do stuff which contained apps can't. Of course, this means you really must trust the application since it could pretty much do anything as it's not contained like apps installed from the official store. This store should really only be enabled if you know what you are doing and there is no warranty whatsoever if you cripple your device or lose your data to someone!
The most useful thing I found currently is the UT Tweak Tool which allows one to tweak some system settings which are not exposed to the normal system settings app. One of these is the "staged vs windowed" mode toggle. Here is a screenshot of my Bq E4.5 phone running in windowed mode. Works really well, windows can be dragged, resized, maximized, etc :) Of course totally no point in using windowed mode on a phone, but just goes to prove the power of convergence that Canonical is building. If my phone could connect to an external display, suddenly windowed mode would become much more useful.
The other nice app is ubtd, which allows sending and receiving files via Bluetooth. No, this is not in the core system yet :P
