The Ubuntu GNOME developers are proud to announce our latest non-LTS release 17.04. For the first time in Ubuntu GNOME’s history, this release includes the latest stable release of GNOME, 3.24. Although Ubuntu’s release schedule was originally centered around shipping the latest GNOME release, this had not been possible since GNOME 3.0 was rele...

#Ubuntu 17.04 Available to Download Now, This is What's New
Congrats Ubuntu team for the new release. Upgrade time! <3 Mostly just new kernel, updated default apps and bug fixes. For me, extra stability is all I need.
This is also the end of the alphabet for Ubuntu, wonder what will be next in terms of release code names? It's also quite possibly the last release defaulting to Unity. It would make sense for Ubuntu 17.10 to include GNOME as default already, considering 18.04 will be an LTS and thus needs to iron out any issues due to the switch.

How is Hate Freedom?
"Haters" in the Linux Community
I'm afraid I just don't get it. #FOSS advocates and most #GNU/Linux users talk a lot about #freedom, but then they don't respect the rights of users and developers and corporations to use free #open-source software as they wish.
"How dare you try to make a profit from #Linux, you eeeevil profit-driven, greedy corporate Scrooge!"
Waitaminute now, it's FOSS ain't it? If I want to combine it with other code, or remix it, or fold, spindle, and mutilate it for whatever purpose, and FOSS guys are all about freedom to do as you please with FOSS code, apps, etc - then explain to me why it's so popular among so-called "freedom" advovates to #hate #RedHat and #Canonical and #Oracle, and any #corporation that uses free open source software to generate #profits - even from simply providing support.
Sometimes great experiments fail, like Canonical's efforts at #convergence (one system for all your devices, from #desktops to #cellphones) and the #Unity desktop shell. When Canonical finally admitted #failure and announced that it's efforts will be redirected, all the #haters celebrated the #failure as though it was deserved. "Serves them right for trying to #profit from FOSS," they all said.
Canonical deserves a lot of credit for trying. And for the wonderful contributions they have made and continue to make. Like the awesome Ubiquity installer that all the #Ubuntu flavors and most of the Ubuntu spinoffs (#Mint, etc) use - but Debian refuses to, while complaining that Ubuntu "takes and gives nothing back." And check out #snaps! That's going to be awesome, and the distro doesn't matter. It could revolutionize package management on all Linux distros. Except Debian, perhaps, since they're too righteous to accept even great contributions from "a greedy corporation."

This is not totally unexpected. The phone has been in "waiting" mode for some months now. Unity 8 is still not ready for mainstream and the next LTS is only a few releases away. I bet it was a hard decision for Mark to make.
End of an era. And end of the only real attempt at convergence by any major tech platform.

Don't remember the fix, but it needed to be reapplied a few times. No way to know if same issue. Search engine should find the old issue.

#Ubuntu 17.04 Unity 8 - current state
Looking massively more ready than last time I had a look. Still some apps look rough, but getting there clearly.
