The year #1976.
1976 (MCMLXXVI) was a leap year starting on Thursday (dominical letter DC) of the Gregorian calendar, the 1976th year of the Common Era (CE) and Anno Domini (AD) designations, the 976th year of the 2nd millennium, the 76th year of the 20th century, and the 7th year of the 1970s decade.
The year when the commercial #Concorde flights started, #Bangladesh and #Pakistan make up, the #US vetoes calls for a #Palestinian state, #Spain withdraws from Western Sahara, #Apple is formed, #Ramones release their first album, an earthquake kills 900 in #Italy, #Syria intervenes in the #Lebanese civil war, the Sex Pistols perform some of their first concerts, #Seychelles gains independence from the #UK, North #Vietnam unites with the south to form the Socialist Republic of Vietnam, leftist #German terror group members go on trial, Viking 1 and 2 land on Mars, an earthquake kills 242,769 (!) people in #China, first outbreak of the #Ebola virus, state of emergency since 1939 lifted in #Ireland, The Muppet Show is aired on #TV, space shuttle #Enterprise rolls out of the hangar, #U2 is formed, anti Fidel #Castro terrorists bomb a plane killing 73, a British Airways and a Yugoslav plane collide mid-air killing 176, right-wing paramilitaries massacre #students in Bangkog, the Chinese Cultural Revolution ends, Chimpanzee is placed on the endangered list, an earthquake kills 3,800 in #Turkey, Murara erupts in Zaire, the first laser printer is introduced by #IBM and Diffie-Hellman key exchange #cryptography is proposed.
Just a regular year on #Earth. This was also the year I was born on this day. During these 40 years humanity has enjoyed a relatively peaceful and successful period of growth.
Please help that we could have another 40 years on this Earth by fighting #climatechange and #hatred. You can help by sharing knowledge of these threats, choosing leaders who will actually try to act and live like we're at war - since we are. At #war against ourselves. At war against the ignorance towards the #future and other #people.
I don't personally expect much from the next 40 years. But one can always hope.
